Gary Hooten, professional auto mechanic since 1972, and owner of Gary's Auto Service, has spent his whole career in Washington State. He spent four years as an apprentice at a Ford dealership in Kent, WA (1972-1976). His time as a journeyman lasted until 1982 at the same shop. From 1982-1989, Gary owned his own auto repair shop in Kent and also did maintenance on used cars intended for resale. Gary moved his family and his business to Port Townsend in 1990. He did auto service on a mobile basis before he opened Gary's Auto Service on Simms Way. In 2000, Gary moved his existing business to its current location on Martin Road. Gary is an ASE certified automobile technician, as is Jay Buckland who has worked for Gary's Auto Service for 10 years. In 2005, The Peninsula Daily News confirmed what Gary's customers have known for years. Gary is the best in Jefferson County. He treats his customers with the honesty and respect that most people have learned not to expect from many mechanics. He does quality work at a fair price. Gary is committed to his community. He served as president of the school board for ORCA (Olympic Range Carden Academy). He is a deacon at the Church of Christ that meets on Sheridan Street in Port Townsend. Most Friday evenings, you'll find Gary racing his sailboat, Kwula, on Port Townsend Bay. |
